How to Play AVIs in Dreambox
Dream Multimedia's digital video broadcasting receiver, Dreambox, is a Linux-powered system designed to play satellite, terrestrial and cable digital signals on a television as well as certain video files through a linked computer. Unfortunately .avi files do not play using the Dreambox firmware alone, even though the .avi format is one of the most commonly used digital video formats. There are two ways to access the videos through the player. Both require some effort.

Instructions
VLC Player

Install VLC Player on the linked computer. This is a free video player available online.

Install VLC on the Dreambox. Like the player, this is a free download.

Open the "vlc.xml" file on contained in the Dreambox folder "/var/tuxbox/config."

Edit the computer's IP address and film directory into the four server and config lines.
The lines to edit look like this:

It may also be necessary to tweak the settings of the video itself.

Open VLC Player on the computer.

Click on "File" and select "Open Network Stream."

Select "UDP/RTP" and check the "Stream/Save" box to select the settings.

Check the "HTTP" box and enter the Dreambox's IP address (format: 000.000.000.000). Click "OK" to exit the two windows.

Open "Settings," then "Add Interface" and "Web Interface." Leave the player running on the computer as the Dreambox streams the video.
Mpeg Conversion

Download .avi to .mpeg conversion software. There are a number of free programs available for this operation. Other file formats that work include ".mp4" and ".mkv."

Open the conversion program. Change the ".avi" file to ".mpeg" or another compatible file.

Enter "File Mode" on the Dreambox and select the file

How to Connect a Dreambox to a PC
Though a Dreambox is a Linux-based entertainment computer designed to work primarily with your cable connections, so as to provide you with access to high-definition television, it can also be used with your computer. This means you can stream content from your computer -- including Internet content -- directly to the Dreambox. To connect a Dreambox to a PC, however, your computer must have either a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet module or wireless Internet functionality.

Instructions
Connect an Ethernet crossover cable from the Dreambox's 10/100 Ethernet port to your computer's 10/100 Ethernet port. Whereas conventional Ethernet cables connect computers to modems and routers, Ethernet crossover cables connect computers to other computers.

Use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the Dreambox to your Internet modem or router. If you have an operational broadband network and your computer is connected to it, then you can connect the Dreambox to your computer by merely plugging it into the same modem or router.

Plug a wireless USB adapter into the Dreambox if you have a wireless network setup in your home. As long as your computer is also connected to the wireless network, either by an Ethernet cable or wirelessly, you'll be able to access your computer from the Dreambox.

Configure the Dreambox's connectivity by navigating to the "Communications Setup" screen under the "Expert Setup" menu and configuring your Default Gateway. If you used Step One, the Default Gateway will be your computer's IP address. If you used Step Two or Step Three, then the Default Gateway will be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1, depending on the router or modem's manufacturer.

How to Program a Dreambox 500
The Dream Multimedia DM 500 HD Dreambox is a receiver that receives cable and satellite digital TV and radio programming. It has a 400 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, and an eSATA jack to attach an external hard drive. The Dreambox allows unlimited channel lists for television or radio, and channel change time is less than one second. It allows you to switch the receiver input from multiple low-noise blocks (LNBs) to receive programming from a number of satellites.

Instructions
Press the "Menu Button" on the remote control and press "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Highlight "System Settings" and press "OK." Scroll down On-Screen Display (OSD) language and press "OK." Highlight your language for the OSD. Press "OK" to activate it, then "Exit."

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote and select "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Choose "System Settings" and press "OK." Press "Time Settings" and "OK." Highlight "Timezone Configuration" and press "OK." Press the "OK" button again to get a list of time zones. Scroll through the time zones until you find yours and press "OK." Highlight "Save" and press "OK" to save your time zone.

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote control and press "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Highlight "Service Searching" and press "OK." Highlight "Automatic Transponder Scan" and press "OK." Select your satellite or cable provider in the drop-down menu and press "OK." You will see the Signal-to-Noise ratio, Automatic Gain Control and Bit Error Rate of the transponder the Dreambox has located. Highlight "Start Scan" and press "OK." The Dreambox will scan the transponder and report the TV, radio, and data services it has located.

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote and select "Setup." Press "OK." Highlight "System Organizing" and press "OK." The Dreambox allows you to organize your programming into groups, called "bouquets." Highlight "Create New Bouquet" and press "OK." Enter a name for the new bouquet using the remote control. The yellow "Options Button" will toggle between capital and lower-case letters and the blue "Options Button" will toggle between letters and numbers. When you have named your bouquet, press "OK." Highlight "Add Services To Bouquet" and press "OK." Select a bouquet type from TV, Radio and File. Press "OK." Select the provider, press "OK" and select your services. After highlighting each new service to add to the bouquet, press the "OK" button. Previously selected services are highlighted in red. Press the "Exit" button when you have selected all your services

How to Update CCcam account for dreambox openbox satellite receiver

CCcam is an applet for use in the Dreambox series of Linux-based satellite television receiver boxes. It allows your Dreambox receiver to access television and radio content from a large variety of sources across the globe. CCcam is a great option for users who live in rural or remote locations, or in areas where the primary television and radio transmissions are broadcast in an unfamiliar language. In order to receive the best possible performance from CCcam, you'll need to keep it regularly updated.

Instructions
Power on your Dreambox receiver, then switch to any active television channel.

Press the oval-shaped "Panel" button located near the top of the remote control to open the Interface Options menu.

Highlight "Addons" then press "OK" on your Dreambox remote. From the addons menu highlight "Download and Install" and press "OK."

Navigate to the "CCCam X.XX - COMPLETE" heading, where "X.XX" is the most recent revision number, and press "OK" to begin downloading the CCCam update files. Highlight and select "Yes" when a confirmation window appears to begin installing the update files.

Press the red "Exit" button located next to the "Panel" button on your remote control to return to the main "Downloads" menu. Select "Cam-Config" from this menu. Locate the "CCcam Config" file that matches the revision number of your previous download, then press "OK" to begin downloading the configuration files. Select "Yes" then press "OK" when a confirmation window appears to install the configuration files.

Reboot the Dreambox receiver once the configuration files have installed. Remember to repeat steps one thru five occasionally to check for new updates.

How to Build a Dreambox From a Computer

Dreambox is a Linux-powered receiver, capable of decoding signals from satellite and digital cable. Because the software that powers the Dreambox is based on Linux, that means that one can basically build Dreambox receiver firmware with their PC, thus adding functionality and/or desired customizations. Tinkering about with firmware requires a fair bit of knowledge on the part of the user, but the actual process of doing so is rather straightforward.

Install Linux onto the computer. There are many variations and flavors of Linux available, some of the most popular are Ubuntu and Fedora.

How to Connect PC to HDMI TV

There are now many ways to enjoy your favorite movies and television shows over a broadband Internet connection on your computer for a small amount of money, or even for free.      Turn your computer off, and turn it around to view the rear of the unit. Find the cable that comes from the computer's monitor, and follow it to the back of the PC. The cable will be plugged into the output of the video card, which will be either a 15-pin VGA port or a 29-pin DVI port. If you are fortunate, there will be a second port directly next to it, of either the DVI or VGA variety. On the newest machines, you may even find a regular HDMI port on the card.

     Choose the connection for video output. If your computer has an HDMI port, you can simply connect an HDMI cord of the correct length between the computer and the TV. Otherwise, you will need to make a few decisions. If your computer has only a single video output and it will not be used solely with the television, you may want to invest in a new video card. Purchase one with either a DVI or an HDMI output, and install it in an available slot, according the instructions included with it. If you intend to use the VGA output on a single-output or dual-output card to drive the HDMI display, then a special device will be needed to convert between the formats. The price of the converter is actually about the same price as an entry-level video card that will be easier to use with your TV. In that case, it may be a wise idea to upgrade the card in order to obtain a DVI or HDMI port. However, if your chosen output port is DVI, an inexpensive DVI to HDMI cable can convert your computer's output into the proper HDMI input for your TV.

     Connect the HDMI cable from your television to your computer. Install the correct adapter or converter for your computer, if necessary. Unless your computer has HDMI output, cords will also need to be connected from the sound card output to the HDMI video cable or adapter, because HDMI carries both video and audio signals.

     Boot your PC, and configure the new display by selecting "Control Panel" from the "Start" Menu. Double-click the "Display" icon and click the "Settings" tab. The manual for your HDMI TV will list the screen resolutions it supports, along with the refresh rates. Configure the resolution in the "Settings" tab, and then click the "Advanced" button to set the refresh rate. If you are using the HDMI TV as the second monitor, you will also have to configure how it is used by Windows, according to the instructions pertaining to your video card. Most cards offer a "Clone" or "Mirror" mode, where both screens display the same content. Alternately, the "Extended Desktop" mode will allow each monitor to operate independently.
