How to Change a LED Light on a 8330

The BlackBerry Curve 8330 has an LED light on the top right of the phone that blinks a specific color depending on the scenario. For instance, if the phone has a low battery, the light flashes green. You can change the LED light's color by downloading an application from RIM's website, the phone's developer. These LED altering applications let you choose your color of the light for difference notifications, such as text messages and missed calls. Several applications exist for this purpose.


Instructions

Create a BlackBerry ID by visiting the sign-up page on the BlackBerry website. Accept the terms of use and enter the required fields to create your ID.

Visit the BlackBerry App World download page using Windows Internet Explorer 6 or higher. The App World download is not compatible with other browsers.




3.Connect the 8330 to your computer using the mini-USB cable.

Pick your language from the drop-down menu and click "Next." If prompted to download the BlackBerry browser plug-in, click "Yes." This allows your browser and the BlackBerry to communicate.

Follow the remaining prompts to install the software to your BlackBerry. A progress bar appears on your browser indicating download completion percentage.

Open App World on your 8330 when the download completes and disconnect the phone from the computer.

Sign into your BlackBerry ID on the 8330 when prompted by App World.

Push "Menu" from App World's main menu, click "Payment Options" then follow the prompts to add a credit card or PayPal account.

Browse through the applications by using the "Search" function to find LED color customization applications. When you find your desired application, open its details page. When you open this page, you have the option to purchase the app. See Resources for three LED color customization applications for the 8330.

Click "Purchase," click "Buy now," pick your payment option and click "Next." The LED light customization application downloads to your phone.

Run the application and follow the program's directions to customize the LED light.

How to Make Your Own Screw-in LED Light Bulb

Making your own screw-in LED light bulb is a great way to save money and to go green. An LED is a light emitting diode, and some companies offer regular screw-in bulbs with the incandescent part replaced with LEDs. This helps save money because LEDs use less power and last longer than regular incandescent bulbs. Another added benefit is that LEDs generate close to no heat so less air conditioning is needed to deal with the heat given off by regular light bulbs.

Instructions

Place the screw-in light bulb plug down in front of you. Unscrew the plastic replica bulb off of the socket and place it to the side. You are going to use it in another step, so do not lose it. Place down 10 LEDs in a line in front of you. Twist a wire lead from the first LED to a wire lead from the second LED. Twist the free wire lead on the second LED to a wire lead on the third LED. Repeat this twisting process until only the first and last LED have a free wire lead.

Twist the free wire lead from the first LED into the positive electrical post on the top of the screw bulb plug. Take the free wire lead from the 10th LED and twist it onto the negative electrical post. The posts have a plus and a minus symbol next to them to denote their polarity.



3.Wrap all the exposed wire leads in electrical tape, but do not wrap them together. Wrap the wires separately to keep them from shorting the circuit. You are making a simple series circuit, and shorts will break the entire circuit. Do not cover the light emitting parts of the LEDs with tape or it will cut down on the light given off.

Push the LEDs into the plastic bulb and then re-screw it to the screw-in plug. Screw the plug into a light socket (with the socket off) and then turn the light on. If the light does not come on, then one of the connections was not twisted properly and came lose. Take the bulb apart and re-twist all the connections to be sure.
